Overview

The Falun Serpentino is the Falun clad in natural soapstone. The dense stone blocks absorb heat while the fire burns and keep radiating it for hours after the fire has gone out.

Why choose the Falun Serpentino

  • Soapstone heat storage. The stone is the heat bank. The supplier lists ember retention at 7 hours or more.
  • Low wood use. It burns about 1.9 kg of wood an hour.
  • One slider. A single lever controls both the primary and secondary air, so it is simple to run.
  • No fan, no power. A double skin draws cool air in at the sides, warms it and sends it back out the top, so heat spreads through the house without a noisy fan.
  • Fresh air from outside. A 100 mm intake at the rear can be connected to outside air, so the fire does not use the warm air in the room. This suits well sealed, energy efficient homes.

Before you buy

  • The price is for the heater. It needs a flue kit: choose one when you add the heater to your cart, or have your installer supply it. The hearth and installation are quoted separately.
  • It needs at least 4 m of flue from the top of the heater, fitted by a licensed installer. Some states also need a certificate of compliance for the installation.
  • Burn seasoned hardwood only, with a moisture content under 25%.
  • The tested clearances and the minimum hearth size are on the specification sheet under Downloads.

Installation & Downloads

This is a freestanding wood heater. It stands on a hearth and connects to a flue that runs straight up through the ceiling.

  • Flue: 6 inch flue from the heater, with at least 4 m of flue above it. Allow one extra length for every pair of 45 degree bends.
  • Outside air: the 100 mm intake at the rear can be ducted through an outside wall or the floor. Where that is not possible, an insulated flue with an outside air connection can bring the air down the flue.
  • Hearth and clearances: follow the specification sheet for this model.
  • Installer: a licensed installer must fit the heater. Some states need a certificate of compliance.

The heater must always be transported upright.

FAQs

Does it need a flue?

Yes. The flue connects to the heater and runs straight up through the ceiling. Allow at least 4 m of flue above the heater. A licensed installer must fit it.

Does it need power or a fan?

No. It heats by natural convection: cool air is drawn into a double skin at the sides, warmed, and released from the top. There is no fan and nothing to plug in.

Can it take its air from outside?

Yes. A 100 mm intake at the rear can be connected to outside air through a wall or the floor. The fire then uses outside air instead of the warm air in your room, which suits well sealed homes.

What wood should I burn?

Seasoned hardwood only. The moisture content should be under 25%, and 12 to 20% is best. Smaller logs burn cleaner, longer and hotter than large ones. Never burn treated or painted timber, driftwood or building offcuts.

Should I shut it down to burn overnight?

Euro Fireplaces advises against it. Shutting a heater down overnight makes a cold, smouldering fire with high emissions and creosote in the flue. These heaters light quickly, and a heat bank or stone cladding keeps giving off warmth after the fire has gone out.

Who can install it?

A licensed installer. The warranty only applies when the heater is installed to the Euro Fireplaces guidelines by a qualified installer, and some states need a certificate of compliance for the installation.

What is the warranty?

Euro Fireplaces covers the firebox for 5 years from the date of purchase. Linings and seals are covered for 3 months, and the glass until the first burn. It applies to the original buyer when the heater is installed by a qualified installer and run to the instructions with seasoned, untreated wood.
