Overview
Westminster is Decoflame’s traditional-style bioethanol fireplace, made in Denmark. A fire basket sits behind a framed opening, like a classic English hearth, but with no flue, chimney or gas line. It suits an old fireplace opening or chimney breast that you want to bring back into use.
Why choose Westminster
- A classic look. A fire basket in a framed insert, in place of an old coal or wood fire.
- Two versions. With a metal frame only, which Decoflame calls the DS, or with a beige Portuguese sandstone mantelpiece around it.
- Your choice of burner. A manual burner you light by hand, or an automatic burner that lights at the press of a button.

No flue or chimney required.
Clearance requirements
Keep furniture, curtains and anything flammable well away from the flame. Follow the clearances in the Decoflame manual under Downloads, or ask us before you plan the position.
FAQs
Can it go in my old fireplace?
Yes, that is what it is made for. Decoflame designed the Westminster for restoring an old fireplace opening or chimney breast. It does not use the chimney, so the flue does not need to work. Check the sizes on the datasheet against your opening first, or send us the measurements and we will check for you.
Does it need a flue or chimney?
No. Decoflame bioethanol fires do not need a flue, a chimney or a gas connection.
The room does need to be big enough. Where Decoflame gives a minimum room size, it is in the Specifications tab. Decoflame also advises letting in fresh air while the fire is running, for example by opening a window for 5 to 10 minutes or leaving a door to the next room open.
Which burner should I choose?
Manual burner: lit by hand with a long lighter. You set the flame and put it out with the tool supplied. The simplest and lowest-priced option.
F2 automatic burner: push-button ignition, two flame levels, remote control and a filling pump.
F3 automatic burner: push-button ignition, three flame levels, remote control and a filling pump.
F6 automatic burner: five flame levels plus ECO mode, remote control, control from the Decoflame app on your phone, and a filling pump. A smart home module is an optional extra.
All the automatic burners have sensors that watch temperature, fuel level and spills, and shut the fire down if something is wrong. Not every model is offered with every burner: the choices for this model are in the Burner menu on this page.
Does it need power?
It depends on the burner you choose. The automatic burners need an earthed power point (Decoflame specifies 240 V, 10 amp), which runs the ignition, the controls and the safety sensors. The manual burner is lit by hand and needs no power.
What fuel does it use, and how long does a tank last?
It burns liquid bioethanol at 96.5 to 97.5% strength, with nothing added. Do not use gel fuel or scented fuel.
With the F6 burner the tank holds 4 L. With an automatic burner, a full tank burns for up to 20.5 hours depending on the flame level you choose. On the highest flame level, allow about 7 hours.
Will it heat my room?
It gives off real heat, and the heat output is in the Specifications tab. Decoflame designs its fires to add warmth and atmosphere alongside your main heating, not to replace it.
What is included, and what is not?
The Westminster comes as an insert with a frame, a fire basket and the burner you choose. The automatic burners come with a remote control and an external fuel pump.
Decoflame makes it with a metal frame only, or with a sandstone mantelpiece around it. Contact us before you order and we will confirm exactly what the option you want includes.
What is the warranty?
It comes with a 2 year warranty. You can extend this to up to 7 years by buying an extended warranty. Ask us for details when you order.
How long does delivery take?
